Vielleicht kann ich mit diesem Link gleich zwei Fliegen schlagen: Zum einen den dezenten Hinweis auf unsere Online-Befragung zum OpenCourse unterbringen (was natürlich vor allem für Teilnehmer, Ex-Teilnehmer, Teilzeit-Teilnehmer und Lurker am OpenCourse selbst interessant ist); und zum anderen auf diese Einladung von George Siemens hinweisen. Er sucht Mitstreiter und Interessierte für ein “distributed online research program around upcoming (massive) open online courses (MOOCs)”. Aber noch spannender sind vielleicht die folgenden Fragen, die ihn aktuell treiben:

2. Do learners perform better in open online courses that in traditional courses? By what metrics would we begin to answer that question?

8. How do existing online learning/teaching models relate to MOOCs (i.e. communities of inquiry, communities of practice, connectivism)?”

Das U.S. Department of Education hat im Rahmen einer Meta-Analyse vor einiger Zeit festgestellt, dass in vielen Situationen das Online-Lernen dem klassischen Präsenzlernen überlegen ist (ich erinnere mich dunkel …). Jetzt haben zwei Wissenschaftler einen kritischen Blick auf diese Arbeit geworfen und das Department of Education zurückgepfiffen. Tony Bates bringt den Leser kurz auf Stand der Debatte, um dann selbst aufzustöhnen:

“My view of meta-analysis research is that it should be dumped in the garbage, as far as education is concerned.”

Das würde mir schon reichen. Aber Tony Bates schiebt noch einen Hinweis nach: “Anyone wanting to do comparative research between face-to-face and technology delivered teaching should say over and over again what Wilbur Schramm said as long ago as 1974: we should not ask whether one means of delivery is better than another, but what are the conditions that determine the appropriate choice of technology.”
